IntelliCAD.net

The IntelliCAD Network

I believe that in AutoCAD versions since 2000 have supported using a polyline object as a viewport.
I have used this feature in the past to create a viewport that fits around a titleblock.
In other words, I have been able to use a closed polyline object to create that irregular shaped viewport.

This would be a nice addition, IMO. Thanks ...

There are two ways to look at this. The IntelliCAD developers have a clear agenda - to complete development of IntelliCAD 7 which they hope to start shipping to ITC members by June 2009. So my guess is that any new development is going to have to wait. However, the fact that IntelliCAD 7 will more closely resemble AutoCAD internally and not just externally, gives us hope that the new features like the kind you are requesting may already be a part of what the developers are already working on.

Yes there is a good chance, I suppose, for the reason that you have stated.
To be honest, I'm surprised how easy it is to move from using AutoCAD to IntelliCAD.
I certainly am pleased to be an IntelliCAD user.
It's nice to see that we, the users, do have some input for future versions.
It will be interesting to see what IntelliCAD 7 consists of.
I'll very likely be upgrading, especially if I get a little discount for being a current user.

IntelliCAD has helped me reshape my business' future.
Along with my decision to migrate to Linux this has really helped me out.

Thanks for the great website and informed discussion Deelip!

Dave: "It's nice to see that we, the users, do have some input for future versions."

Actually, this is one the reasons I started IntelliCAD.net. The ITC management and developers get requests for new versions from the ITC members, not from the IntelliCAD users. As far as I know, the ITC has no way of directly interacting with the end users of its software. User requests have to pass through the ITC members who may choose to filter out some in the process, for whatever reason. Through this web site, the ITC can interact directly with end users and possibly get a better sense of how their software is being used and what more is expected from it.

I am glad you found this social network useful.

Well good job Deelip!
I would think it would benefit the ITC as well as the end user.
Working with anything as complex as IntelliCAD tends to lead to either micro management or not being able to see the forest for the trees. Communication with the real world often helps keep things in perspective.

O.T (hope you don't mind)
I think the new world economy will be a step in the right direction. One with a better use of time, materials and more freedom in which to create.
Why not, with Barack Obama taking every opportunity to use the momentum of his very successful campaign, a country that has been knocked off it's hinges by the unpresidented poor decision making of the lamest ducks in all times and a people amazingly ready for change ... it's the perfect storm in which to reshape this United States. It's a funny thing, a country never wants to change anything in the best of times, only when in dire straights does a country want to effect change.
I for one am glad to see the bubbles burst, even though I don't gain a thing through my IRA. IMO, this is a blessing in disguise that won't be noticed or discussed at any length until the changes have already been made.

I'm not quite sure how I got from end user interactions to a forward thinking economy ... there must be a connection there somewhere ... ;-)

ps. please feel free to edit or move this post ... I was rambling on a bit there.

Dave,

Sometimes I helps to get it out of the system. Back here in India, I am also looking at this as a blessing in disguise. All this easy money that young kids were getting thanks to this booming job market has led them to follow the same footsteps as the west - plastic money, credit card, life life on credit. These kids have now got a rude shock and are begining to appreciate the virtue of saving and then spending as opposed to spending and then struggling to pay for it.

So true. Although I earn a moderate income, we have worked hard to pay off our home. 4 more years and it will be ours.
No credit card debt and an IRA in sad shape right now. What matters is that we are happy, living in the country, I work for myself so I don't need to commute daily and my office is my laptop. Now I have made the move to Linux and am very pleased with the way XP runs within. I am using VirtualBox but I have read that it is essentially the same as Parallels. I read an article somewhere that even had benchmark tests done on the two virtual machines above as well as VMware. VirtualBox and Parallels were neck and neck and superior to VMware. It took a bit of tweaking to get things set up correctly and running smoothly but it is working very nicely now and I am glad I made the change. There is something quite refreshing about using "Open Source" software. The users seem to be a particularly nice group of people that are willing to help, no matter how small the problem.

... I wish those kids well, with the taste of plastic and "free" money it may take some time to bring them back down to earth. Yes, I think it's a good thing to experience rough times as well as the good, I know my definition of "tollerance to risk" is now slightly different than it was a few years ago.

Great talking with you,

Dave
