IntelliCAD.net

The IntelliCAD Network

After having been contacted by a Bricscad representative from NH and visiting their site to see they have 36 3rd party applications and 100 to come I am very convinced they are taking a lead amongst the Intellicad products.

Now to find a way to convince the powers that be to ditch the buggy legacyware that is autocad. Also looking forward to the future Architecturals release as well as many other sugestions i made, RPC and openNurbs .3dm support mainly.

Rhinoceros has been opening and saving SU and FormZ models for as long as i can remember as well as PDF DGN and DWG. just a side note as another solution. One that could cost you 199$ for a full commercial license if purchased while taking a school class.

It's always fun to watch a horse race, especially when you've got some great contenders!
Support and business philosophy are as important to great software as the jockey is to bringing that horse home.
I'm interested in knowing the noticeable differences to the end user.
Is there a review or comparison anywhere that I could look at to see what color this horse is?

Thanks,

Dave

While IMHO Bricscad is the best of the clones to date, they still have a ways to go (Fields, Dynamic blocks, Geometry Lib etc..), but at the rate they are going, I’m sure it won’t be long before these are implemented.
What impresses me about Bricsys it their support. Every time I have sent in a bug report or I ask for a little help, I get timely responses. This last Saturday morning I posted three questions regarding BRX issues I was having, all three questions were answered (with sample code) the same Saturday night.. Now that’s what I call support!..

wow, thanks Deelip i will try tour beta out and let you know.

one thing i am interested in ensuring is that the 255 colors open / save and stay consistent between all 3 for line weight / reprographics purposes.

maybe the ACIS solids issue may have to employ some sort of SAT hybrid solution? if solid/surface SAT out these objects as a option even if it is a 2nd file that needs to be imported together to the dwg?

best luck and thanks for all you do.

OpenNURBS 3DM support for Bricscad is exactly what we at SYCODE are working on. We are due to release 3DM import and export plug-ins for Bricscad 8 and 9 soon, among other formats. You can download a beta of the import plug-in at http://www.sycode.com/installers/3dm_import_bc.exe.

Blocks in 3DM are maintained across the translation. Even nested blocks. That was a bit tricky but we finally managed to pull it off.

We even managed to convert dimensions (linear, angular, radial, etc.) from a 3DM file into corresponding dimension entities in a DWG file. Obviously the dimensions in Rhino and Bricscad will not look exactly the same because of the way both software products internally treat and render their respective dimension objects. But we have tried to make them resemble as best we can.

Currently solids in a 3DM file are imported as wireframe edge curves. Our ultimate goal would be to get them into Bricscad as either tesselated polyface meshes or better still, ACIS 3D solid objects. I am trying to get some help from McNeel from that front. Let see if they help.

If you do try 3DM Import for Bricscad, I would appreciate some feedback. You can email me at deelip (at) sycode (dot) com

Greetings Xenophon,

Keep us posted on Bricscad from your perspective, staying informed about various products is where it's at.
Thanks for your input here.
